Odette of Gwyndor was once the eldest of seven daughters born to a grand duke named William. A widower and in poor health, William relied heavily on Odette to help him care for her younger sisters after his wife passed on, and when she came of age, he began to search desperately for a young man worthy of both his daughter and his titles and lands.
Enter Von Rothbart, a powerful sorcerer with his eyes on William's seat in the kingdom and the beautiful young maiden that would come with it. Disguising himself as a young viscount, he attempted to woo both William and his daughters, but Odette was not moved, and William would agree to nothing without his daughter's full consent. Far from deterred, Von Rothbart took the youngest of William's daughters captive and used her to lure Odette into a secluded glade. There, he forced a band of white feathers onto Odette's head, and with it placed a curse upon her and all other young maids that shared her blood; in that instant, each and every one of William's daughters were transformed into swans. The shock was too much for the aging grand duke's heart, and he died that very night. There was then nothing standing in Von Rothbart's way, and he took the kingdom by force and would have slain all of Odette's sisters, had the curse not taken a turn he hadn't anticipated. When the sun rose, Odette found herself transformed back into a young maiden, and with the help of one of her father's pages, she gathered her sisters together and fled.
Because her sisters were frozen in the form of swans, Odette hid them in a wild, Fae-touched corner of Sherwood Forest, under the indirect protection of the Robyn Hood and her Merrie Men. Alas, because of the way the curse affected Odette, she could not stay with them. By day she exists as a swan, and by night she wanders from township to city and from one kingdom to another in the form of a girl, searching for some way to break the curse, free her sisters...harboring the hopes of one day defeating Rothbart and restoring her father's lands and name.
